Introduction to Project Management

1 Day Training Session

Who Should Attend

Anyone involved in developing timing plans for complex activities.

Purpose of the Training

This training program provides knowledge and skills necessary to understand issues that drive project management. This training session is designed to prepare participants to learn how to use detailed project management tools, such as Microsoft Project©. However, it is not a software training session. It is specifically targeted as an introductory overview for automotive and manufacturing companies that are engaged in the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process.  During this training, you will:

·    See how principles of project management and APQP are similar.

·    Understand the key fundamentals of project management, including important issues regarding styles and approaches to management.

·    Learn how the inevitable conflicts that arise in project management can be solved effectively and efficiently

What You Will Learn

·  Why project management requires specialized individual activities to become interdependent

·  How to differentiate between deliverables and activities—and why this is important.

·  Why uncertainty always exists in project management, and how to deal with this

·  Why some activities are “predecessor” and some are “successor” activities

·  What types of team formats and management styles are possible in project management

·  Why a “milestone” is different from a handoff, and why this is critically important

·  How to deal with conflict during planning and execution of a project management plan

·  How to build Activity-On-Node diagrams & why this should precede using software for planning

·  How to develop a network analysis for a project using an example problem

·  How to determine the Critical Path in a project using Activity-On-Node diagrams

·  How to define and assess the key deliverables in any project

·  How to manually assess and balance resource limits using diagrams

·  How to analyze and “break down” the complex activities required for real-world projects

·  How to integrate the “best practices” in APQP and project management
